Cat Worship

Ancient Egypt

Cats were worshipped in ancient Egypt, and it was illegal to kill one even if it was an accident. You could get sentenced to death for this offense. Cats were thought to be magical animals. They brought luck to their owners. Wealthy cat owners would adorn their cats with jewels. Cats were even mummified when they died, and the owner would shave off their eyebrows as a sign of mourning. They would mourn until their eyebrows grew back.
